Wireless Site Survey.

Provide an improved and consistent wireless experience for your end-users

Improve your current wireless networks, increasing productivity and efficiency

Our experienced team provides an end-to-end solution to suit your individual business needs

Wireless networks are so commonly used that they have become a business necessity; businesses can't operate without a secure and reliable WiFi signal. However, due to its wireless nature, WiFi security can be challenging to control and manage. A wireless network that has poor signal strength, dead spots or is inadequately distributed can also impact productivity and efficiency.

At The Missing Link, we can help you to get optimal wireless coverage and performance, by understanding the Radio Frequency (RF) behaviour of your wireless network deployment site. We assess and identify poor signal coverage or congested areas within current wireless networks.

We use specialised hardware and software to take readings of your existing wireless signal strength, create a predictive heatmap to address congestion and blackspots.

Using best practice, we then recommend an improved solution to address the key issues identified by the site survey to improve your network performance.

Whether you're moving into a new space and require a predictive survey, or you have an existing wireless network that requires a passive survey or active survey we have you covered. Our team of experienced IT consultants will provide your business with an end-to-end solution, from the site survey, recommendation, hardware ordering, and the implementation of the bespoke solution. We'll also provide ongoing management and support as required.

FAQs

  • What are the different types of Wireless Site Surveys?

There are three basic types of Wireless Site Surveys: passive, active and predictive.

A predictive site survey is usually performed prior to moving into a new space and are helpful for budgeting purposes.

A passive site survey collects information on existing access points for signal strength, interference, and AP coverage - these are often performed when upgrading existing wireless networks.
An active site survey concentrates on a specific wireless signal or set of signals while the network is in full operation.

  • Why are Wireless Site Surveys important?

Put simply, wireless has now become essential for a modern workplace, and not having adequate coverage can impact the productivity and efficiency of your business. Unfortunately, most companies place their access points (APs) at random when deploying a wireless network - which may work in smaller deployments, but with medium to large deployments, a wireless site survey is advised and often needed.

Today, all businesses planning to deploy or refresh their wireless coverage should start by scheduling a wireless survey. Without it, planning an enterprise-grade WiFi network becomes challenging, causing several common problems such as coverage holes, overlap coverage and RF interference, leading to wasted time and money. The overall goal of a wireless site survey is to determine the practicability of deploying a wireless network to meet your needs and within the constraints of your site.

  • What does a WiFi heat map show?

A heat map from a Wireless Site Survey visually shows your wireless network signal strength and coverage. The map uses a colour-coding approach, with green representing strong signal strength and red representing weakness.
A heat map will help you understand which areas of your office lack wireless network coverage and which have strong and dependable coverage available to them. Several factors can interfere with your WiFi signal strength, including objects like walls, furniture, wireless radios, neighbouring WiFi connections and even your kitchen microwave.

  • What Is A Wireless Access Point?

Wireless access points work by connecting directly to your broadband router or network switch via an Ethernet or data cable to transmit and receive a wireless signal in either the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz frequency range. This creates a Wireless Local Area Network, or commonly referred to as WLAN.

A weak WiFi signal on your devices is a sign that you should give the installation of an access point some serious consideration. Wireless Access Points can be added to your existing wireless network set up for improved WIFI coverage. They’re also great for devices where you cannot connect a physical Ethernet cable i.e. smartphones, tablets or Audio Systems.
