Here at The Missing Link, our people are the engine of our company. We’re immensely proud of their knowledge and expertise, which helps our clients achieve incredible things through IT transformation – but they’re so much more than their job description! In this series, we take a moment to sit down and discuss the weird, wacky, and wonderful parts of our team’s lives that make them who they are.

Alyson Morgan joined The Missing Link in August 2023 as a Cyber Security Project Manager. She’s not just passionate about solving challenges and delivering innovative solutions—Alyson’s love for travelling, music, and sport keeps her energised outside of work. Whether she’s exploring new destinations, playing the piano, hitting the tennis court, or paddleboarding along Australia’s stunning coastlines, Alyson brings her curiosity and drive to everything she does. Let’s take five minutes to get to know Alyson a little better!

So Alyson, tell us about you... where did you grow up?

I grew up on a dairy farm nestled on the picturesque border of England and Wales.

What was life like as a kid on a dairy farm?

Music was my first love—I played the piano, saxophone, and drums. When I wasn’t focused on music, I was busy playing netball, tennis, and rounders or helping out on the family farm. Fun fact: I even had a pet cow!

With such a variety of interests, what did you picture yourself doing when you grew up?

I always dreamed of running my own company. Teaching also inspired me, and for a while, I envisioned myself engineering for the F1 circuit.

What was your first experience of working life?

My earliest "job" was working on the farm—though it wasn’t exactly paid! Officially, I worked for a wedding caterer and had a stint in a bank while in school.

From those beginnings, how did your career take shape?

  • Started as a Physics Teacher
  • Moved to Sydney and became a Head of Year
  • Progressed to Head of Department
  • Transitioned to Project Management in Cyber Security

That’s an impressive journey! What milestones or achievements stand out along the way?

Moving to Sydney solo at 26 was a major personal milestone. After backpacking in Australia in 2009, I set a four-year plan to return permanently. It’s been over a decade now, and I’ve even become an Australian citizen. Professionally, I transitioned from teaching to Cyber Security Project Management, which was a huge leap. On the personal side, I’ve completed a half marathon and represented my county in netball. Next up? The Sydney Half Marathon!

What led you to The Missing Link? Was there a moment that sealed the decision?

With a degree in Physics, technology was always a point of interest. Finding a company whose culture aligned with my values was paramount, and The Missing Link felt like the perfect fit when I saw the job posting.

Now that you’re here, what do you love most about your role?

I’m a Project Manager, focusing on Architecture and Implementation Projects in Cyber Security. I love diving into the intricacies of building solutions tailored to clients’ needs and environments. It’s rewarding to work alongside a great team to solve problems and manage projects.

Who inspires you as you grow in your career?

Marie Curie’s resilience and achievements are incredibly inspiring, especially as the first person to win two Nobel Prizes. I also keep a quote from John Ruskin close: "The path of good woman is indeed strewn with flowers; but they rise behind her steps, not before them." (I used this a lot in my teaching days.)

What’s next for you in your career?

I aim to grow into a Senior Project Manager role, handling larger, more complex projects and leading a team in Cyber Security.

With all this tech around, are you a bit of a gadget fan?

A bit! While I geek out on spreadsheets, I draw the line at Kindles—physical books still win my heart.

So, what’s your favourite gadget?

My Garmin watch—it tracks everything from my sleep to runs and keeps my "body battery" in check!

Let’s dream big for a second—what would your perfect day look like if money weren’t an issue?

If money wasn’t an issue, my dream day would involve travelling the world, with a special focus on South and Central America. I’d also love to experience an African safari and eventually own a stunning winery in the countryside, where I could wear Akubra hats, embrace the outdoors, and nerd out on the science behind winemaking.

And on a typical weekend, where might we find you?

Running, brunching with friends, soaking up beach vibes, or enjoying a winery with a cheese board and wine tasting.

What keeps you energised outside of work?

Travel is my ultimate passion. I love exploring Australia’s National Parks, playing tennis, paddleboarding, and immersing myself in music by playing piano.

What’s the most interesting situation you’ve found yourself in while pursuing your passions?

From swimming with giant turtles in the Galápagos to riding horses in Argentina, I’ve had my share of adventures. Highlights include Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, cycling Death Road in Bolivia, and even being held hostage for my passport during one particularly memorable trip. Travelling always keeps life interesting!

Finally, what’s the best part of living in Sydney?

Sydney’s natural beauty is unmatched—beaches, coastal walks, and National Parks, paired with a vibrant city lifestyle. It’s the best of both worlds!
