The Work Stuff

As a kid, I loved planes, trains, cars and anything else that got people from one place to another very fast. I would try and remember as many car brands as possible and drive my parents crazy by calling out every car I saw go past. This passion meant that becoming a Formula One Driver was my only dream job. However, this dream came to an end as a 12-year-old go-kart racer due to my lack of talent mid-corner.

I started working in a bike shop while I was at high school, which soon turned into a hobby, something about beautiful carbon fibre road bikes and sophisticated mountain bikes had intrigued me deeply. I continued working at multiple bike shops from selling to servicing while I completed my HSC, at the same time rising to the elite ranks in road cycling.

I received a sports scholarship from Macquarie University and travelled around the world riding professional races while studying my cyber security degree far away from home. In this time, I accomplished some of my biggest achievements, including racing in the Tour of Utah, Herald Sun Tour and winning a stage of the Tour of Tasmania.

Along the way, I met co-founder of The Missing Link, Daniel Forsythe. Naturally, my degree in cyber security and our long training rides (sometimes 6 hours) meant we had plenty of time to chat, and he shared his wealth of knowledge and guidance with me.

When it came time to stop racing and start my new career, I knew The Missing Link was exactly the place to be. Here at The Missing Link, my official title is Security Sales Support, and my main role is to help our Account Managers with their back-office functions to keep them running smoothly between meetings and projects. More recently, I have been working with SMEs directly to assist them in their cyber security journey.

My biggest role model would have to be Mark Webber. From his long career filled with thrilling races, podium wins, and surviving major crashes, his journey in Formula 1 embodies the fighting spirit and shows that hard work pays off eventually.

The Tech Stuff

Since working in the industry, I love keeping up-to-date with the ever-evolving technology trends, threats and vulnerabilities - I find it exciting and a little scary to think of just how much cyber warfare is being waged behind our backs and impacting our lives.

I am not necessarily a tech freak, but I certainly enjoy jumping on the Xbox to play Halo and Forza Motorsports (no surprises here). My favourite and most used gadget would have to be my Airpods; I have become accustomed to the luxury of not having to hold my phone up to my ear when I make calls, and I never want to go back.

As far as apps are concerned, I'm a bit mainstream and boring. Still, I do enjoy using Twitter for following interesting characters, including Mike Cannon-Brookes (co-founder of Atlassian) and Kim Zetter (author of 'Countdown to Zero Day').

The Fun Stuff

On weekends, I am generally catching up with friends at a café over a big brekkie, at the beach or escaping on my motorbike – I currently own a Honda CBR600RR and am loving it. Although I am not as fast as I was back in my racing days, I still enjoy going for a bike ride to change up the pace.

Since 2004, I haven't missed a Formula 1 race, so if money were no object, I would be heading straight to the racetrack to cut some laps in a Lamborghini followed by spending the afternoon on a yacht in the South of France.
